Been tough for my sister recently. Hard to even get her on the phone since she seems so depressed. Flare ups aren't fun. Needing some advice.

Could you suggest having her attend an IBD support group or check out the CCFA website? There are people with whom she could speak with there who better understand her situation. Constant pain from a disease can be very depressing.

Do you live close by? Maybe you could cook her a meal or get her out for a walk. During my last flare up I think it was always being inside that made me the most depressed.

You are a wonderful sister for being so supportive. I'm sure there are many out there who wish they had someone like you! It is okay to feel bad sometimes. Just knowing someone cares makes a huge difference, but sometimes we can't acknowledge it until after we've dealt with our pain and depression first. At other times, we need someone to step in and keep us from going too far down the road of depression and loneliness. It must be so hard for the support people in our lives to know the difference. But thank you so much for being there! Ask your sister some coaching questions to help her get through this. How is this flare different from others. Have you learned to see when a flare is going to ease up and has this flare gotten to that point. Is there anything you have had success with in the past to reduce your symptoms. What can I do to help you get what you need? Thanks again, for being so supportive. Your sister is truly blessed!

My brother has Crohn's, so I'm not only a sufferer myself but have to see a family member go through it. Not easy to watch at all. Being supportive is extremely important for anyone with these diseases.

I'm glad that I was finally able to get it posted successfully! I think that it is particularly cool (for me) since I already saw Corey Siegel in his main role of a doc when he presented at our symposium. One good thing abput IBD--I've met a lot of wonderful professionals who are diligently working in the field trying to find more answers and better treatments for all of us who are involved with IBD issues.
